When you first arrive, there will be a bit more paperwork to finish. After all the paperwork has been completed, we’ll go into the treatment room to further discuss your chief complaint and other related issues. Expect to answer a bunch of questions during our first session. It’s important for me to understand the problem and how it effects your life so I can diagnose you appropriately. Usually the interview takes about 15-30 minutes. If you’re experiencing physical pain, I usually do a quick physical exam. I’ll check the injured area and/or meridians involved with the injury. In addition, I’ll check your pulse and tongue.
In the second part of the session, I will treat you with needles unless you have a total aversion to needles in which case I’ll use another modality. My acupuncture needles usually stay in for 30 minutes. You should feel relaxed and comfortable. I might come in periodically to check on your comfort level, otherwise I’ll leave you in the treatment room to de-stress and unwind. After the time is up, I’ll come in to take out the needles and we’ll discuss future treatments.
